Are you interested in organizing your coworkers? Do you want to solve problems that you see around you? Perhaps something unfair has happened to you or a co-worker and you want to do something about it? For us, that means getting organized.

In this workshop series, based on the book Secrets of a Successful Organizer by Labor Notes, you will learn how to identify the key issues in your workplace, build campaigns to address them, anticipate management tricks and traps, and inspire your peers and co-workers to fight together despite their fears.

Organizing is like cooking: there are proven recipes that anyone can learn, methods that work and others that don't. Your results may not always be perfect, since we are dealing with human beings, but you will do better if you learn from the successes and mistakes of the organizers before you.

These workshops are based on our acclaimed book, Secrets of a Successful Organizer.

Where: Boston Teachers Union, 180 Mt. Vernon Street, Dorchester, MA 02125

When: Saturday, April 22, 9:30 a.m. - 5 p.m.

WORKSHOP DESCRIPTIONS

Beating Apathy

Are you beating your head against the wall trying to get other workers involved? This workshop is for you. Hear success stories from those who’ve turned their workplaces around and turned apathy into action. Learn practical organizing tools for engaging your co-workers, taking action, and getting results.

Assembling Your Dream Team

Your workplace may feel like an unorganized mess, but the truth is you’re not starting from zero. There’s organization there already—though it might have nothing to do with the union. Learn how to map out the existing networks in your workplace, identify the leaders in those networks, and then knit them together into an organizing committee.

Turning an Issue into a Campaign

Everybody has complaints and frustrations, but an organizer has the power to turn problems into opportunities. Learn how to sort through the issues you hear from co-workers, bring people together, and make a plan to solve them.

Register by clicking "Add to Cart" and following the checkout instructions. Once you've registered, you'll get an email confirmation.
