Workshop: What to Do When Your Union Breaks Your Heart

There was both heartbreak and lots of hot blood in the veins at the August Convention of the National Association of Letter Carriers, where fed up members raised demands and rallied union siblings to democratize the NALC. According to letter carrier Margo O'Neill of Branch 352 in Des Moines, Iowa, “The number one takeaway is that the times in the NALC, they are a-changing."

The best thing we can do when heartbroken by our union is to talk to co-workers, make plans together, and take action...which is exactly what you'll hear at the next What To Do When Your Union Breaks Your Heart workshop on Sunday, October 18, at 7:30 p.m. Eastern (4:30 p.m. Pacific / 5:30 Mountain / 6:30 Central).

...about the heartbreaks of sell-out contracts, being ignored and dismissed by old guard officers, and managing the exhaustion of endless workdays with no plan from the union for relief. And then hear what they - and many other NALC members - are doing to build bottom-up power inside the union.

This workshop is based on a piece by Labor Notes board member Ellen David Friedman who will also be leading the workshop. Ellen is also the author of the new book Keep Going: A Guide to Organizing When It's Hard.
