Thousands of defenders of Long Island College Hospital and Interfaith Medical Center, led by New York State Nurses and 1199 SEIU health care workers, held a jazz funeral for Brooklyn health care July 24. They marched and danced across the Brooklyn bridge to oppose the threatened closures. It has been a tumultuous month of dramatic turnabouts, with over a dozen rallies, a number of arrests, one of the hospitals repeatedly declared dead, ambulances diverted, pink slips mailed, and last-minute restraining orders.
