The People Win: Korean Labor and Social Movements Defeat a Dictator
Event at a Glance
Event Date
On December 4, just after U.S. elections brought Trump to power, the democratically elected president of South Korea, Yoon Suk Yeol, declared himself a dictator and invoked a military coup-from-above.
For the next four months, general strikes called by the KCTU and massive popular mobilizations of civil society fought relentlessly to defend democracy. They ultimately prevailed when Yoon was impeached and thrown out of office on April 4.
This webinar, which is free to attend, will bring vivid first-hand accounts of this intense struggle from key leaders and offer inspiration to Americans facing a comparable crisis.
