One of the most important tools in the rank-and-file toolbox for transforming the labor movement is running for local union office. Internal elections are one of the ways that members can present a new way forward for the union, by putting the direction of the union in the hands of the membership—even if it means challenging existing leaders to do so. »

Public education, and public school workers, are facing harsh and hard times—understaffing, austerity, privatization threats, inadequate supports for students, and suppression of academic freedom. On December 4, just after U.S. elections brought Trump to power, the democratically elected president of South Korea, Yoon Suk Yeol, declared himself a dictator and invoked a military coup-from-above. For the next four months, general strikes called by the KCFTU and massive popular mobilizations of civil society fought relentlessly to defend democracy. They ultimately prevailed when Yoon was impeached and thrown out of office on April 4. »
