Labor Notes is enthusiastic about hosting inclusive, accessible events that enable all workers, including people with disabilities, to fully engage. Childcare:
We are pleased to offer childcare throughout the weekend to make the conference accessible to parents. Available for children over one year old. Fill out the request form by March 15. Donations are encouraged for those who are able to give.
Covid Precautions:
We are asking everyone to wear masks throughout the conference, though we cannot guarantee that everyone will abide by the request to mask. We recommend N95, KN95, KF94, or FFP2 masks, not just a plain surgical mask, because the research shows these are much more effective at reducing the transmission of Covid. Speakers and performers may remove their masks while speaking or singing from the front of the room.
The hotel ventilation system has been remodeled to allow for 4-6 air exchanges per hour in all areas and the installation of MERV 13 filtration. Meeting rooms in the "conference center" area of the hotel do even better, 14.5 changes per hour. (Our conference will use these rooms as well as other meeting rooms and ballrooms.) The guest rooms air filters are replaced every six months.
Additionally, Chicago's Clean Air Club is generously providing two HEPA air purifiers which we will use in an eating area and during the song contest and concert.
There will be indoor eating. Access to outdoor space is limited.
We will do our best to make masking the norm at this event, including by having speakers reiterate the request, posting it in writing, and making extra masks available.
We also encourage folks to test before attending, get booster vaccines, and stay healthy. Refunds are available to anyone who is sick and unable to attend.
Why mask? At such a large and important gathering of our movement, with people traveling from around the world and spending long days in close proximity, Covid still poses dangerous risks. This disease is no joke—probably we’ve all seen someone in our lives get very sick or suffer the effects of long Covid—and the risks are even greater for those of us who are immunocompromised, or who have loved ones, patients, students, or clients who are. We want the conference to be accessible to all, and we want everyone to stay healthy and safe for the next fight.
Disabled Workers Meeting
Meetups of workers with something in common are the heart of the conference. Most are in-person only, but this year one meeting will be hybrid to allow remote participation: the meeting of disabled and chronically ill workers. We’ll talk about how we’re organizing and bargaining to make our workplaces and unions more fair, just, and accessible, and forming a new worker network for disability justice. Food:
Lunches and dinners will be for sale at cash stands inside the hotel. Food options in the immediate vicinity of the hotel are limited, but there are some restaurants in walking distance; we will add more detailed info to this page as the event gets closer. Please consider bringing some snacks with you.
Fundraising Dinner
Note that registration for the Saturday evening fundraising dinner ($70) is a separate ticket from registration. Space is limited.
Hotel Booking:
The conference is held at the Hyatt Regency O'Hare, 9300 W Bryn Mawr Ave, Rosemont, IL 60018, (847) 696-1234, a union hotel not far from the airport. (See it on Google Maps.)
Rooms go fast! Our room blocks at the Hyatt and several other nearby hotels are already full, but you can still reserve rooms with hotels in the area. There are many hotels clustered in close walking distance. The Hyatt Regency is a short walk (0.5 miles) from the CTA's Rosemont Blue Line station, with connections throughout Chicago.

Conference sessions take place on three levels, all accessible by elevator; here is a floor plan.
The main sessions and fundraising dinner are held in an enormous ballroom. The workshops are in conference rooms. We will ask the hotel staff who set up chairs to ensure that each room has accessible seating space for participants using wheelchairs or mobility aids, and a marked path from the door to be kept clear.

At registration, everyone will be encouraged to put a gender pronoun sticker on your badge to let others know how you identify.
Quiet Room:
An unstaffed quiet room will be available for the shared use of anyone who needs a break.
Recovery Meeting:
A room and time will be provided each morning and evening for a those in recovery to meet; this session is self-organized by the participants who attend.
Restrooms:
Both single-gender and all-gender restrooms will be available.

Song, Poem, Drag, and Hip-Hop Contest:
The Great Labor Arts Exchange's annual contest will be held live at Labor Notes on Friday at 9:15 p.m. To enter the contest, fill out this form. Limit one entry per registered conference participant. Cash prizes will be awarded in five categories by popular vote of the audience. The winners will perform in the Saturday night concert (9:15 p.m. Central) which will be livestreamed on the Labor Heritage Foundation Facebook page.
Sound:
Not all workshop rooms will have amplified sound, but the larger ones will. More rooms will have amplified sound than last time.
Spanish Interpretation:
Available for plenaries and selected workshops. Selecting Spanish when you register will help us estimate how many people to plan for. A Spanish-language version of the conference schedule program book will also be available.
Transit:
The hotel is a short walk (0.5 miles) from the CTA's Rosemont Blue Line station, with connections throughout Chicago.
Volunteer:
Hundreds of volunteers play an integral role in helping us pull off this one-of-a-kind conference! If you're willing to volunteer, please indicate it when you register, or email courtney[at]labornotes[dot]org.
Some volunteer tasks involve moving heavy things, some involve moving only lightweight things, and some can be done sitting at a table. We can also make use of skills you might have, like speaking a second language, troubleshooting the connection between a laptop and a projector, or being warm and welcoming. Thanks for any way you're willing to help out!
Waitlist:
Registration has closed and so has the waitlist. We were absolutely bowled over by the pace of registrations this year, and we have reached the maximum number of people we can safely fit in the hotel space.
