Generations of troublemakers owe their thanks to donors like you, who have made this work possible since 1979. To help secure the future of Labor Notes––and ensure rank & file leaders are prepared to face what’s to come––we invite you to consider naming Labor Notes in your will or estate plan.

Workers today have lower real wages, less job security, and smaller, weaker unions than our parents had before us. Today, it’s not enough to just fight the boss; workers must organize for the long-haul to strengthen our movement from the bottom-up and transform our society. Labor Notes is excited to be thinking about the future: we’re making plans to develop the next generation of troublemaker trainers, increase support to workers transforming their unions, revitalize worker-to-worker political education, and organize to fight back against anti-worker authoritarian forces.

HOW TO LEAVE A LEGACY DONATION:

If you are beginning this process, please write to us at fundraising[at]labornotes[dot]org or call us at (718) 284-4144 so we can guide you through the steps. You can also use our bequest form to ask questions or notify us of a gift.

1. First, choose how you want to make your donation. While we cannot offer legal advice, here are some of the more common options for making a bequest:

  • Name Labor Notes in your will or estate plan. You can name Labor Notes as one of the beneficiaries of your estate. Unrestricted gifts give us the most flexibility in funding our work. You can leave us either a stated dollar amount or a percentage of your residual estate (what remains after gifts to loved ones and expenses have been paid), or specific liquid assets, such as securities.

    • Sample will language:
    "I give and bequeath to Labor Notes [the sum of __________ Dollars ($____)] [ _______ % of the rest, residue and remainder of my estate], to be used for its general charitable purposes."

  • Designate Labor Notes as a beneficiary of your retirement plan (pension fund, 401k, IRA, or other plan), bank account, investment account, or life insurance policy. You can designate Labor Notes as the beneficiary of all or part of that money at the time of your death. Ask your retirement plan administrator or financial institution for a change of beneficiary form. Please list us as:
