    On December 19 Oregonians occupied post offices that were slated to close in 17 rural communities. Carrying Christmas cards, cookies, and gifts of appreciation for postal workers, the occupiers collected signatures on petitions to Congress to change the laws that caused the Postal Service’s $8.5 billion budget deficit.

    The following is my own transcribed version of the notorious September 16 episode of a Fox Business Network show that insulted postal workers, called for postal privatization, and said that much of the American middle class “should have been pushed down.” My own comments have been added, in italics and bold.

    Postal workers are asking for your help to save the vital services they provide, along with their jobs and unions. Postal Service management is planning to close more than 100 local post offices, consolidate others, and end Saturday delivery.
