Labor Notes is best known for our monthly magazine of the same name. We report news about workers—from the point of view of workers—that the mainstream media doesn’t find worth printing.
We explore the trends that are keeping workers on the defensive and analyze labor’s responses. What’s working and what’s not? And as an independent publication, we’re free to include the voices who say we could be doing better—and tell how. We’re a thorn in the side of the too-comfortable.
In Labor Notes, you'll find reports on inventive organizing tactics and contract campaigns. You’ll read coverage of the people who are working to kick some life into their unions and put their fellow workers in the driver’s seat. You'll read sometimes shocking stories of workers’ struggles abroad that demand action—and request your solidarity. And you’ll find nuts-and-bolts information in our Steward’s Corner column, which brings advice from battle-tested experts on everything from bargaining tactics to using social media effectively.
Labor Notes is the one of few national magazines that gives you news, views, and reviews about the labor movement from workers themselves. We seek out stories large and small that aren’t covered from the viewpoint of the ranks—or aren’t covered at all. Every month, activists engaged in union-building across the nation write about their experiences.
We started publishing in 1979 as a way for rank-and-file rebels and reformers across many industries to learn from each other. Thirty-one years later, a whole new generation is taking the fight forward. We’re right here alongside you.
