People at Labor Notes

STAFF

mark [at] labornotes [dot] org (Mark Brenner)
Director and Labor Notes East Coast Office

Mark Brenner joined the staff in September 2005. He comes to Labor Notes from the University of Massachusetts, where he spent several years working with living wage campaigns around the country, as well as playing a leading role in his union. Mark currently covers SEIU, longshore, and transit unions.

jenny [at] labornotes [dot] org (Jenny Brown)
Staff Writer and Labor Notes East Coast Office

For 23 years, Jenny Brown was co-editor of the Iguana, a progressive monthly magazine in Gainesville, Florida, where she was a founder of what remains surely the most successful chapter of the Labor Party. She covers UNITE HERE, building trades, airlines, UFCW, and women workers. She also designs the monthly magazine.

mischa [at] labornotes [dot] org (Mischa Gaus)
Editor and Labor Notes East Coast Office

After several eye-opening stints in corporate media, Mischa Gaus comes to Labor Notes from In These Times, where he was a contributing editor. With a background in student-labor activism and a turn in the Buffalo News Guild shop, he has appeared in many alternative outlets, and unwillingly, twice in the Wall Street Journal. He covers the Communications Workers (CWA), health care workers, and Steelworkers.

adrian [at] labornotes [dot] org (Adrian Montgomery)
Operations Coordinator

Five years ago Adrian was featured trying to navigate the health care system in the Michael Moore documentary "Sicko." Since then she’s been organizing and educating for single-payer health care.

theresa [at] labornotes [dot] org (Theresa Moran)
Organizer

Theresa comes to Labor Notes after several years working as a researcher and organizer for health care unions in New York and New Jersey. Before that, she cut her teeth as a student labor activist in New York, fighting to kick Coca-Cola off campus and assisting campus security officers in their successful campaign to organize for higher pay and better benefits. Theresa loves a good rally and has been known to get misty-eyed at the song "Solidarity Forever."

jane [at] labornotes [dot] org (Jane Slaughter) started working with Labor Notes in 1979, eventually serving as editor and director. She is the author of Concessions and How To Beat Them and co-author, with Mike Parker, of Choosing Sides: Unions and the Team Concept and Working Smart: A Union Guide to Participation Programs and Reengineering. Her work has appeared in The Nation, The Progressive, In These Times, and Monthly Review, among others. She covers Teamsters, auto, and the UE.

eduardo [at] labornotes [dot] org (Eduardo Soriano-Castillo)
Organizer and Coordinator, Latino Network

While a staffer for Philadelphia Jobs with Justice, Eduardo Soriano-Castillo helped non-union workers at area universities win sick days through a student-worker alliance and helped museum security guards organize an independent union. Eduardo is based in San Francisco. He writes on worker centers, non-majority unions, Latino workers, young workers, and LGBT workers.

ellis [at] labornotes [dot] org (Ellis Boal)
Music page curator

A founding endorser of Labor Notes, Ellis Boal has written on legal subjects over the years, including TDU's legal rights handbooks in the late '70s and early '80s, and more recently an online practice manual for UAW members in internal appeals. He began managing the website in 2001.
