According to a recently-published study, scientists have demonstrated, to their own satisfaction, that lab rats do dream, and that their dreams are about the mazes they negotiate by day.
When Rats Dream
If you were a rat,
A hard-working rat,
You'd love to sleep
All curled up tight.
After contributing to science
You'd be ready for some shut-eye, 'n
Sleep through the cage of night.
When rats dream,
When rats dream
At the close of their rough-and-tumble days
With their white lab coats
With their sleek white throats
When rats dream
They dream of the maze.
If you were a rat
A hard-working rat
With no benefits
And no pension plan,
You'd ask yourself where had your life gone,
You'd fall asleep with the TV on,
And with dinner in the pan.
When rats dream,
When rats dream
At the close of their rough-and-tumble days
With their mental charts
With their beating hearts
When rats dream
They dream of the maze.
